The Sacral Chakra

Physical Location

The Sacral Chakra lives 2 inches below the navel near the gonads or sex organs. It is the color orange and it effects sex, food, and pleasure as well as playfulness and the ability to let go. Let's talk about how to use and balance this chakra.

A Balanced Appetite

The essence of the sacral chakra is knowing that what we have and do is good enough. It controls our appetites for food, sex, and pleasure. If we are too indulgent we burn of vital life fuel that is needed for other systems in the body. If we hold back from what we physically desire, we get hungry for what we deny ourselves. It may take discipline and maturity, but we must learn to balance this chakra over time.


The sacral chakra is concerned with our physical wellbeing. That means that we nourish the body and give it what it needs including nutritious food, exercise, fun, work, and plenty of rest. It is also associated with deservedness and feeling like we deserve the good that we desire in our lives.  Finally, it's associated with pleasure and the ability to receive pleasure in our lives. Finding what is simple, enjoyable, and free-flowing will help balance this chakra, but making our lives more complex will strip away the pleasure.

Enough is Enough

The underlying theme with the Sacral Chakra is knowing when enough is enough. Do you put yourself in situations that are not pleasurable in order to please other people? Are you working way too hard and not spending any time on hobbies and doing things that you love? These are directly associated with the Sacral Chakra and knowing when enough is enough can help bring balance into your life allowing you to know when to play, have fun, and enjoy, and when to work or be more serious. This balance is crucial for our long term health and well-being.

Releasing Tension and Living Joyfully

Releasing tension is such an important trait of human beings. One great way to do that is to exercise regularly as well as eat nutritiously and give yourself plenty of time for rest or leisure. Living joyfully stems from believing that you deserve to live joyfully. Any time we feel that we do not deserve the good things that we want, our life becomes chaotic work without meaning. We feel as though we are trapped in a life that is not our own. This can happen on a subconscious level so it's important to tap into this with meditation and coaching.
