031: 2 Times Nutrition Saved My Life (And How It Can Change Yours)

Nutrition has saved my life multiple times.

I had to pick two times where it truly saved me from situations where I could have died for this podcast episode.

The first time, I was a young teenager around 14 years old, and at least 70 pounds overweight.

I was picked last for gym class, picked on for being fat and made fun of all the time.

I turned to an angry person who would bully and put others down so I could feel better about myself and my body issues.

Then the school sent a letter home to my parents, explaining that my BMI showed that I was obese and I was at risk of diabetes.

They forced me to go to the doctor so the doctor could lecture me on diabetes and tell me that I need to change my habits.

So I did…

I remember exactly where I was when I made the decision to change my life. I will never forget it.

I was in my basement and I said to my 3 buddies, “I’m going to get ripped”.

They didn’t believe me and brushed it off, but I had just made an enormous shift in my mindset: The very first step of change, the decision.

But I had no idea what I was doing at all.

I was trying my best to eat salads, and I was working out at home.

I would work out once and then look in the mirror and get discouraged. I was disappointed not to see results right away.

Slowly but surely the weight started to come off after weeks and months of crushing myself with hard work outs and continually eating salads.

I went as far as to try different fasting methods and starving myself to get rid of the shameful weight I had put on.

All said and done, I lost 75 pounds by the time I was 17 years old.

So that’s the first time, Nutrition had saved me from getting diabetes at a young age, and saved my life.

The second time,

I thought I was doing everything right, until one day I went crashing into the ground as tunnel vision set in.

I caught myself on a tree, and remember looking down at the white decorative rocks on the ground in my backyard.

I had no idea what was wrong with me, but I was fainting…

When I was rushed to the Emergency Room, they told me that my heart rate was down to only 30 Beats Per Minute. For some context, a normal healthy athlete has a resting heart rate of about 60 BPM (beats per minute)

I was rushed to an EKG so they could understand what was going on with my heart.

Eventually, I was diagnosed with lyme disease and a serious heart infection.

After the long EKG process that ensued where I had to wear and EKG on my chest for multiple days so they could monitor my heart, I decided to change my diet again.

I switched to a completely raw plant based diet along with some herbs known for healing lyme disease and protecting the heart.

Over about a 2 month span, my symptoms disappeared. I went back to the cardiologist, and they could not find any problems with my heart what so ever.

I have been symptom free at this point for about 4 years.

Nutrition had saved my life from dying AGAIN!

The power of nutrition in our lives is like no other.

What else do you do 3 times per day?

Since I’ve finally got my nutrition in order, everything else in my life started growing and becoming better as well.

I started having better relationships, making more money, and having more time and energy to spend with my family.

My life has become an extremely rare opportunity for me to have fun every single day!

I get to do what I love and get paid, and I also get to connect with amazing people every single day. It’s truly a dream come true.

I travel, eat out, and enjoy life on a whole new level, and I believe that Nutrition is the foundation for ALL of this growth.

If you start with nutrition, you can build a strong foundation for the rest of your life to thrive…
